The Controversy of Diet Patches To Lose Weight

Articles on Weight Loss  |  Topic: weight

It seems as if everyone is looking for a good, fast way to lose weight in our current society. Those quick weight loss fads come and go. From pills, to shakes, to special foods, it seems as if there are a million ways to lose weight quickly. It can be relatively difficult to determine which weight loss methods work and which do not. One of the most popular new ways to lose weight is the diet patch.

Patches to deliver medication in and of themselves are not a new concept. Doctors have been using the patch method to deliver various chemicals to the human body for years. In truth, it works on a great concept. The human body has unique skin. Through our skin, we can absorb all sorts of things If you attach a patch to a portion of the skin that contains various chemical compounds, the skin will slowly absorb those compounds as it is able to process them. This is a great solution to traditional forms of medication, as the patient can go about his or her daily life without the need for needles, intravenous transfers, pills, or liquids to swallow. Moreover, patients can absorb up to ninety-five percent of the chemical in any given patch, which is quite a bit more than most self-given medications.

Diet patches work in this fashion. The ingredients in each patch are delivered through the skin. The chemicals are so small; they can literally fit in between the cells of your skin. While the chemicals each brand of patch contains tend to vary, most contain a fairly similar list. One chemical many of the patches contain is guarana. Guarana is a berry that is found in Venezuela and contains seriously large amounts of guarnanine, a chemical that is quite like caffeine in nature. This ingredient helps to stop hunger and stimulate the metabolism.

 Bit of History
Ah, mon cher for anyone who is alone, without God and without a master, the weight of days is dreadful.
—Albert Camus (1913–1960)

Another common ingredient in most diet patches is chromium. This ingredient is necessary for normal body processes, but when extra is added to the body, it can help to speed up insulin production in the body. This, in turn, can help to speed up the body's metabolic processes, thereby helping the body to process food more quickly and efficiently. This means that in the long run, your body will store less fat than it normally would because of your higher rate of metabolism. Garcinia Cambogia is also a typical ingredient in most diet patch brands. This is an extract from a tropical tree that tends to grow in India. The acid found in Garcinia Cambogia that helps with weight loss is HCA.

Some relatively good studies have been done in the last several years that show promising results in the link between HCA in weight loss. The process works because carbohydrates cannot turn into fat in the presences of HCA. A chemical reaction takes place preventing this process, helping your body to burn off the carbohydrates that you take in during the course of a normal day. Fucus Vesiculosus tends to be present in most diet patch products as well. This is also called brown seaweed in many circles. Diet patch advocates suggest this works because it increases the level of iodine in the human body. This, in turn, stimulates they thyroid gland to produce additional hormones. Lower levels of the thyroid hormones in the human body are often linked to poor energy and extra body fat. Stimulating the thyroid, therefore, should help to prevent those consequences.

The real question on most people's minds is whether or not diet patches truly work. Marketers would suggest almost anything to get you to buy their product, and the marketers involved in diet patches are little different. In fact, some of the marketing ploys for diet patches have gone so overboard, many diet patch marketing firms have gone to jail for false and outrageous claims. This is not to say, though, that diet patches are completely ineffective. In fact, in many cases, they may actually help to stimulate the body as much as any other dieting supplements might. Before you try any supplements, though, always check with your doctor, as even chemicals that seem harmless can react poorly with your physiology.
