Maintaining health and safety at work is in everyone's interest. Contemporary safety and health laws mean that it just makes sense for employers to make a safe workplace for their employees. If they don't, they can be sued, can lose valuable work time from their employees, and can even face criminal negligence charges. Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace, even once you resolve to, is not always s simple task. Nonetheless, if you take adequate steps, you can make any workplace into a safe workplace.
The first step to making sure that you have health and safety at work is to identify any potential sources of danger. This can be a pretty difficult step. As a matter of fact, in many workplaces, it is the most time-consuming and involved. It can take hours upon hours. The real problem is that there are a lot of potentially dangerous problems that are easy to overlook. If you walk past the same loose floorboards, the same aging decrepit machine, or the same poorly ventilated room enough times, you won't even notice that there's something wrong with it. Nonetheless, health and safety workplace problems can strike so unexpectedly that you need to train yourself to anticipate them before they happen. Hiring an expert is a great way to go about it. They can point out things that you have become so accustomed to the you can't even see them anymore.

I wish more and more that health were studied half as much as disease is. Why, with all the endowment of research against cancer is no study made of those who are free from cancer? Why not inquire what foods they eat, what habits of body and mind they cultivate? And why never study animals in health and natural surroundings? why always sickened and in an environment of strangeness and artificiality?

Of course, the only way to legally protect yourself and your employees is to come up with health and safety at work guidelines. Ideally, you should print out the rules booklet and make sure that every employee gets one and is required to learn it. If it means that you have to take a day off to go through all of the health and safety rules at work rules with the employees, so be it. It will be worth it for you when you are able to save one of your employees from being seriously injured.
Finally, and probably most importantly, you have to maintain health and safety at work. It is relatively easy to get your workplace up to OSHA compliance, but it is a much more difficult thing to make sure that it stays there. Constant vigilance is one of the most difficult things to achieve. People tend to get lazy after a while, necessitating a new campaign for safety. By never letting things get slack around the office, you can make sure that people are safe all the time.
