The face mask is made out of real metal. This came as a pleasant surprise as well. I was kind-of expecting a plastic face mask but this NFL helmet offers one in steel. The metal is covered with a type of vinyl coat that makes it less harsh, not that my husband really cares about soft lines.
The realistic NFL football helmet not only has the steel face mask but it also offers a jaw strap and padding that seems to be standard for the pros. This is one of the most outstanding sports equipment replicas I have ever purchased and I have purchased quite a bit.
